Welcome to Gilgal Ministries!
This is a ministry to assist retired and terminated Mississippi Southern Baptist Ministers and their families.
Our name!
The name for this ministry comes from the book of Joshua. Upon entering the Promised Land, Israel came first to Gilgal. It was at Gilgal that the Manna ceased and the people first ate the fruit of the land. It was at Gilgal where the Covenant relationship was renewed when all of the men of Israel were circumcised. It was at Gilgal that Joshua was encouraged by the Captain of the Host, a preincarnate visitation by Jesus. It was at Gilgal that Israel first celebrated the Passover in their new home. It was from Gilgal that Israel launched their campaign to take the Promised Land. It was to Gilgal that they returned for rest and refreshing after each campaign. It was at Gilgal where the sin of Achan was revealed and cleansing took place. It was at Gilgal where each tribe of Israel received their inheritance. To Israel Gilgal was a place of renewal, a place of refreshing, a place of instruction and a place of encouragement. May our Lord bless richly the Gilgal Ministry that it may become to weary and wounded ministers what Gilgal had been for Israel.
Our Mission
Our mission is to assist Southern Baptist Ministers in Mississippi. There are two major problems that our ministers in Mississippi face that have an impact on both them and their families. During their years of active ministry our mission is to assist those who have been terminated from their place of ministry. As a result of termination there is a need for housing, a need for temporary employment, a need for encouragement, and sometimes a need for financial assistance. We plan on helping wherever we can and however we can. Many of our pastors who are getting ready to retire find that they have a grossly inadequate income. Our mission in this area is to help financially as we can and to eventually build a subsidized retirement complex.
Our Method
In order to carry out our mission we will need at least 500 churches and 1000 individuals to place this ministry in their monthly budgets. At the current time we have a number of churches and several individuals that contribute on a regular basis. In the coming months we will prayerfully and aggressively reach out to churches to inform them of this need and to seek the support we will need to begin building the needed facilities.
